A Catedral de Lourenço Marques é vista, até aos nossos dias, como uma cópia da
obra do arquitecto Auguste Perret. Pouco referenciada em estudos, e mal interpretada
por alguns autores, procurámos, nesta dissertação, trazer novos dados para a sua
compreensão. Recorremos a fontes primárias coevas que nos clarificassem o melhor
possível o que se passou e como se passou. Tivemos por base o livro Guia da
Catedral de Lourenço Marques que detém muita informação sobre a mesma e factos
ocorridos. Os arquivos complementaram a informação procurada. Mediante os factos
encontrados, e tendo em análise a vida do engenheiro que a projectou, pensamos
poder dar uma nova leitura a este edifício que faz parte do património de ambos os
países: Portugal e Moçambique.
The Lourenço Marques Cathedral is seen to this day as an imitation of the architect Auguste Perret's work. Because it has been a bit misunderstood in referenced studies, some authors have tried to bring a new and clearer understanding to this work by bringing in new data. Through using original literary sources, we can clarify to the best possible extent what happened and how it happened, using the book Guia da Catedral de Lourenço Marques, which holds a great deal of factual information together with additional files, that reinforce the sought out information. Through recent acquisitions of documented facts, and also taking into consideration the life of the engineer who designed it, a newly acquired interpretation is linked to this building, which is, that it is in fact part of the heritage of in fact both countries; Portugal and Mozambique.
