The dissertation O corpo divino diabólico (The Diabolic-Divine Body) has a theoretical-practical nature and proposes to debate the origin of the masculine domination over the feminine. Theoretically, it aims to answer the questions: How have arguments of female inferiority been built based on the differences between sexes, for that to establish a model of patriarchal knowledge that expropriates women’s bodies? How has violence against women erroneously become attached to the masculine erotic nature? This dissertation keeps the debate on the female body—the diabolic-divine body—as the foundational centre of the theoretical articulations. It establishes the encounter between Georges Bataille’s philosophical reference and Françoise Héritier’s anthropological one to ponder the primordial wound, which touches the relation between the sexes. In the practical domain, it reflects on the processes that have guided me to the production of a sound-sculptural installation called Ecos do corpo divino diabólico (Echoes of the Diabolic-Divine Body), which reveals and reverberates the feminine voices once silenced by the masculine domination. This dissertation considers the intertwinement of the theoretical dimension and the artistic making and points how arts can evoke women’s re-existence.
