Este estudo dedica-se a avaliar as sanções unilaterais à luz de critérios tradicionais de Direito Internacional, com um foco especial nos seus impactos negativos. Percorre-se um caminho que vai desde os princípios gerais de Direito Internacional à aplicação prática. Ademais, analisam-se as várias formas de como as sanções unilaterais podem ferir direitos humanos em mais que uma vertente e afirma-se que o nexo de causalidade entre a medida coerciva e o resultado é difícil de estabelecer materialmente, ainda que inegável.
Há menção ainda da conduta dos privados neste campo, e que papel é que estes tomam como veículo das sanções até à violação concreta de direitos humanos.
This dissertation is dedicated in evaluating unilateral sanctions considering traditional International Law criteria, with special focus on its negative impacts. For this purpose, we scroll through the general principles of International Law, to its practical implementation. Moreover, we analyse the several ways in which unilateral sanctions may hurt human rights in more than one dimension and we affirm that the causal link between the coercive measure and the result is difficult to establish, even though the effects are undeniable. There is also mention of the conduct of private entities in this field and which role do they play in conveying the unilateral sanctions until the consummation of the human rights violation.
