| dc.description.abstract | In this article we discuss the work “Selfportrait of a female artist as part of society”, by the Portuguese artist Ana Pérez-Quiroga. This work, which can be defined as social media art, has been built over the last 4 years using the Instagram app, and has over 16,000 images published so far. We analyze this artwork based on the concept of “total art”, or Gesammtkunstwerk, adopted by the artist to determine her intermedia poetic search, with the assumption that art can become “total” when connecting to real life in a set of sequential events mediated by everyday objects and images. We will also briefly relate this artwork with the project “Home”, also by Ana Pérez-Quiroga, to find out how social media can serve as a vehicle for a contemporary “total art” in both projects | pt_PT |
