desenvolvimento do Brasil.
O papel do Estado é questionado e revisto.
apostem no mercado energético brasileiro.
The energetic sector is strategic to the development of every country. There is a direct relationship between energy, environment and sustainable development. Since the thirties, this sector has had a crucial role in the industrialization and in the development of Brazil. Being completed statized in the sixties with the creation of the holding entreprise - ELETROBRAS, the electric sector became very fragile due to foreign debt and carne in the eighties merged in a profound financial and institucional crisis. The nineties become the cenário of changes, and of the choice of another way - the liberalization and privatization. The goal is to create a more rational, efficient sector which allows Brazil to mantain its position or even claimb in the New Industrilized Countries' ranking. The state's role is questioned and revised. The reform is supported by the World Bank and the European Union. The latter seeks in Brazil a big market for the intemationalization of its entreprises. Portugal has an important role in this process, and can contribute with its recent experience of reforming and reorganizing the electric sector, which bets in the intemationalization and foreign investment, choosing its first market to be Brazil. Besides the role and investment of EDP Group, there are many opportunities for other portuguese entreprises, of other business branches, which are direct or indirectly related to the electric sector, in the brazilian energetic market.
