| dc.description.abstract | The following research project intends to address issues related to natural disasters and the risks in over populated urban areas, as well as in agriculture and forestry areas of the coastal landscape. It compares the consequences and post disaster planning in the affected regions, as well as the lessons that it brings to the population and plans for their future cities and landscapes. In particular, it addresses the case of the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755 and the changes that emerged after the disaster. A contrast between the process of planning Lisbon and London after the fire of 1666, is also presented. Two more recent cases, the earthquake in 1980 in the city of Angra do Heroísmo, Azores, and the earthquake / tsunami that hit the East Coast of Japan in 2011, are also analyzed for comparison. It is intended to understand the various reactions of the landscape to earthquakes and tsunamis, answering questions such as: "Different levels of destruction in similar areas: some areas were completely devastated unlike some elements or specific buildings that remained intact." Once understood the differences in levels of destruction, these lessons are and may be key points for planning future landscapes, as well as an understanding of the planning regulations that lead to the reconstruction of each case, taking into account the political system and the processes deriving from them. | por |
