Este projeto resulta de uma reflexão sobre o papel da arquitetura e na valorização do património militar. Explorou-se o seu passado para esboçar o seu futuro, de um complexo esquecido na cidade. O cuidado com a paisagem, o valor do património, e as necessidades de uma comunidade, acompanharam todo o desenrolar desta proposta de reativação, valorização e reabilitação do antigo Quartel das Guardas de Corpo na Calçada da Ajuda.
A maneira como a história deste lugar persuadiu o desenvolvimento desta proposta de intervenção, faz-se mostrar nos vínculos que se tentam preservar e, sempre que possível afinar, entre os múltiplos elementos constituintes deste complexo. Assim, são sugeridos novos pontos de acesso e um novo programa para Lanceiros Dois, onde a arquitetura valorizasse o património e o lugar, como o proporcionar de uma resposta às necessidades atuais da comunidade onde se insere.
A arquitetura é interpretada como um agente dinamizador, que procura preservar os valores culturais, sociais e económicos presentes no lugar – a Freguesia da Ajuda.
This project results from a reflection on the role of architecture and the valorization of military heritage. Its past was explored to sketch its future, of a forgotten complex in the city. The care with the landscape, the value of the heritage, and the needs of a community, accompanied the entire development of this proposal for the reactivation, enhancement and rehabilitation of the former Quartel das Guardas de Corpo in Calçada da Ajuda. The way in which the history of this place persuaded the development of this intervention proposal is shown in the bonds that are tried to preserve and, whenever possible, refine between the multiple constituent elements of this complex. Thus, new access points and a new program for Lanceiros Dois are suggested, where the architecture would value the heritage and the place, as a response to the current needs of the community where it operates. Architecture is interpreted as a dynamic agent, which seeks to preserve the cultural, social and economic values present in the place – the Parish of Ajuda.
