This dissertation aims to analyze and perceive the significance of the choral manifestation of Gota D’água, play written by Chico Buarque and Paulo Pontes, which consists in a contemporary recreation of the euripidean greek play, Medeia. We shall be concerned with elaborating a literary study about the Chorus within these works, focusing on the importance of the choral expression in both plays. Furthermore, we will identify both the common lines between the Chorus of the brasilian tragedy and Medeia’s Chorus, as well as the deviation moments which unravel the novelty brought by Buarque and Pontes. Later in this research, we will become aware of a subtle or perspicuous connection involving Gota D’água’s Chorus and other literary plays which take part in fundamentally complementing the choral role. As a result, these works will be taken into account in the investigation. The political and social context of Gota D’água will therefore be encompassed throughout the analyzis, having the intention of achieving an understanding of the message the choral voice intends to convey.
