A inventariação do Património Cultural surge como uma iniciativa eficaz no que diz respeito ao conhecimento, gestão, preservação e valorização deste, que constitui elemento essencial da identidade de qualquer povo, e requer acções de salvaguarda para que possa ser mantido para as futuras gerações. Para isso é necessário, o seu conhecimento, algo indissociável da investigação, que para além do conhecimento científico que produz, fornece dados para sua salvaguarda e promoção.
Relativamente a área em que se incide o presente estudo Cabo Verde, a Arqueologia é uma disciplina ainda recente que necessita de maior desenvolvimento e suportes teóricos e práticos. Assim, na dissertação apresenta-se o inventário dos sítios histórico arqueológico com intervenção arqueológica no país. Os dados do inventário foram obtidos, a partir da análise bibliográfica referente aos sítios e alguns dados obtidos no campo. Os sítios inventariados encontram-se distribuídos em quatro ilhas do arquipélago, e são autênticos testemunhos da riqueza e diversidade cultural de um povo caracterizado pela miscigenação, sendo possível verificar tanto traços europeus como africanos a conviver num único espaço, que importa investigar e divulgar. Junto a este inventário, a enunciação e análise dos vários aspectos da Arqueologia no país, nomeadamente a legislação relacionada, a história das investigações arqueológicas tanto terrestres como subaquáticas, e a apresentação de casos exemplares de potenciais áreas de investigação arqueológica no país constituem o corpo desta tese.
O trabalho realizado pretende ser um ponto de partida à abordagem da Arqueologia de Cabo Verde, e mais um elemento para o conhecimento e gestão. Mas, pretende sobretudo chamar a atenção para o Património Arqueológico de Cabo Verde, um legado patrimonial pouco investigado e divulgado, com potencialidade de fornecer elementos que enriqueçam a história e a identidade do país, e um recurso turístico estratégico, por excelência.
The inventory of Cultural Heritage emerges as an effective initiative with regard to knowledge, management, preservation and appreciation of it, which is an essential element of the identity of any people, and requires safeguard actions so that it can be maintained for future generations. For this it is necessary, his knowledge, something inseparable from the investigation, that in addition to the scientific knowledge that it produces, provides data for its safeguard and promotion. Regarding the area in which the present study is conducted Cape Verde, Archeology is still a recent discipline that needs further development and theoretical and practical support. Thus, the dissertation presentes the inventory of archaeological sites with archaeological intervention in the country. The inventory data were obtained from the bibliographic analysis of the sites and some data obtained in the field. The inventoried sites are distributed in four islands of the archipelago, and are authentic testimonies of the richness and cultural diversity of a people characterized by miscegenation, being possible to verify both European and African traits to live in a single space, which must be investigated and disseminated. Along with this inventory, the enunciation and analysis of the various aspects of Archeology in the country, including related legislation, the history of both land and underwater archaeological investigations and the presentation of exemplary cases of potential archeological research areas in the country constitute the body of this thesis. The work carried out intends to be a starting point for the Cape Verde Archeology approach, and another element for knowledge and management. However, it intends to draw attention to the Archaeological Heritage of Cape Verde, a legacy that is little investigated and divulged, with the potential to provide elements that enrich the history and identity of the country, and a strategic tourist resource, par excellence.
