Abstract(s)
The Panoramic Restaurant of Monsanto, located in Lisbon, was an ephemeral product of the 60’s that ended up hosting various functions in an attempt to revive a huge and isolated space. Sixty years later, it is vandalized and in ruins, functioning only as a viewpoint. Despite the challenges it faces, this building has become one of the city’s attractions. Part of this is due to pure curiosity, as individuals seek to experience the ruins, but it´s mostly its panoramic view over the city and the river that seduces and captivates the visitor. The discovery of this site represents one of the most significant moments in the development of this work, as it was from this point that admiration and respect emerged for a space that still exists in a time no longer its own. In a context where urban voids and abandoned buildings are increasingly under scrutiny and debate, it is essential to deepen the discussion on what to do with them. Considering its connection with urban art and its potential as a viewpoint, the proposal is to reactivate this space as a Center of Arts and Culture. The memory of the place has been taken into account but, nevertheless, the aim is to requalify the space in order to add value to it. The ambition is to create A (new) perspective of the City, establishing a new hub to promote art and culture within the city.
