Abstract(s)
Wine is probably the oldest and most consumed alcoholic beverage in the world. The beneficial effects of moderate and regular consumption of red wine are associated with high levels of polyphenols with antioxidant activity. Resveratrol is a polyphenolic phytoalexin found in a variety of foods, particularly in red wine, being here synthesized in grape skins. The interest in resveratrol has increased due to its bioactivity that include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activity. In this way, it presents a state of art about the intracellular effects and the effects at the cell membrane level because their knowledge is essential for understanding the pharmacological and therapeutic activities of this bioactive compound. However, resveratrol application is still being a major challenge for pharmaceutical industry, due to its poor solubility in the aqueous medium, compromising their bioavailability.
