do currículo, constitui o objectivo principal desta dissertação.
The main objective of this thesis is to study the training of primary school teachers in Portugal from 1942 to 1986 based on training components of the curriculum. This research is essentially based on legal documents which outline the organization and functioning of the institutions where the training took place, the schools of Magistério Primário, or those connected to them with the same purpose; regulations and other records of the previously referred institutions as a way to improve the pedagogic practice and the training itself. The written production of some of the intervenients in these curricular components are also taken into consideration; articles and student books produced by teachers that investigated the teaching of the mother tongue and arithmetic, subjects which were considered essential throughout the time frame in focus, and reports of the trainee teachers. This analysis led to some relevant conclusions, mostly in what concerns curricular modifications during and after Estado Novo, teaching methodologies in the two vital areas of the curriculum and the training of student teachers which are referred to in the reports of the trainee teachers.
