Os museus se constituíram como espaço de resguardo e performance da memória e, a
partir de funções essencialmente pedagógicas, atenderam às ideologias de suas épocas. À
medida em que alguns museus enfrentam uma diminuição crescente no número de visitas,
novas formas de atrair e reter os visitantes são propostas. Entretanto a adequação do espaço
museológico ao contexto pós-moderno exige respostas mais complexas em âmbito teórico e
prático. Por esse motivo, após uma revisão da literatura das teorias da cultura e comunicação -
com destaque às práticas significantes e à teoria crítica, respetivamente - analisam-se
estratégias que têm sido empregadas em museus para estreitar sua relação com o visitante e
propõe-se um projeto para o Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado (MNAC) com
a finalidade de sugerir uma solução para um futuro em que a relação entre o museu e as pessoas
seja mais íntima e ativa.
Museums were set up as a space for the preservation and performance of memory and, based on their essentially pedagogical functions, they catered to the ideologies of their times. As some museums face a growing decline in the number of visitors, new ways of attracting and retaining visitors are being proposed. However, adapting the museum space to the postmodern context requires more complex theoretical and practical responses. For this reason, after a literature review of cultural and communication theories - with emphasis on significant practices and critical theory, respectively - we analyze strategies that have been used in museums to strengthen their relationship with visitors and propose a project for the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea do Chiado (MNAC) with the aim of suggesting a solution for a future in which the relationship between the museum and people is more intimate and active.
