| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation addresses the role of the archive as a tool for the preservation and production of knowledge, considering its discursive dimension. It seeks to explore a conception of the archive as a space of social inclusion and representativeness, reacting to its colonial framework, which highlights a vision of the archive as a space of abundance, but also of erasure of social memories. In this sense, and reflecting on design as a critical practice, it aims to challenge dominant paradigms and propose alternatives for the construction of archives that we characterize as “dissident”, as a counter-response oriented towards inclusion and representativeness within the archive. To this end, the study begins by weaving a theoretical discussion around the concept of archive, addressing its discursive and technological dimension as an online digital medium, in order to identify its characteristics, mutations, limitations and potentialities. This approach leads to a reflection on the colonial framework of the archive and, by extension, of design, which highlights the need to repair these discursive spaces according to a process of decolonization. In this sense, principles and methodologies that can promote a discursive repositioning by questioning social divisions are discussed, namely by breaking with the domination matrix and by assuming an intersectional perspective. This discussion informs an analysis of contemporary archive projects that, at the level of the discourse and model they assume, promote values such as inclusion, openness and collaboration. The theoretical and analytical components of the study are then articulated with the foundational work that motivated this dissertation in order to define guidelines for the design and construction of a “dissident” archive, guided by values of inclusion, representativeness and social engagement. This study thus seeks to promote a critical reflection around the discourse and model of the archive, as a result of a symbiosis between social agents, promoted by collaborative, open and accessible models. It seeks to take advantage of the possibilities of digital computing and online accessibility to create platforms that support the creation and existence of a multiplicity of archives, as well as multiple memories and social identities. | pt_PT |
