Intitulada Ourém entre Guerras (1919-1939) Caracterização Económica, esta dissertação visa caracterizar as estruturas económicas do concelho de Vila Nova de Ourém entre 1919 e 1939. Período marcado por turbulências económicas e sociais, a dissertação inicia-se com a caracterização evolutiva dos sectores agrícola, industrial e comercial no concelho. Outrossim, são avaliados os impactos económicos e sociais do pós-Grande Guerra e da Crise de 1929 e consequente Grande Depressão, ou seja, a crise das subsistências, as crises de 1921 e 1924, as crises de superprodução de azeite e vinho da década de 1930 e respectivos impactos sociais, desde a falta de trabalho às soluções para a suprir, como a concessão de subsídios, a emigração e a construção de obras públicas. Em virtude da necessidade de acréscimo das produções agrícolas, a dissertação também contempla o estudo da propriedade rústica, os processos de divisão dos principais baldios do concelho e as disputas por baldios com os concelhos vizinhos, os resultados da divisão dos baldios e da Campanha do Trigo no concelho e a resistência dos agricultores em aderir ao associativismo agrícola. Por fim, esta dissertação afere a necessidade de melhoramento e construção de infra-estruturas e subsequente desenvolvimento do turismo no concelho.
Entitled Ourém between Wars (1919-1939) Economic Characterization, this dissertation aims to characterise the economic structures of the municipality of Vila Nova de Ourém between 1919 and 1939. A period marked by economic and social turbulence, the dissertation begins with characterization of the agricultural, industrial, and commercial sectors in the municipality. Furthermore, the economic and social impacts of the post-Great War period and the 1929 Crisis and consequent Great Depression are evaluated, that is, the subsistence crisis, the crises of 1921 and 1924, the crises of overproduction of olive oil and wine in the 1930s and their respective social impacts, from the lack of work to the solutions to supply it, such as the grating of subsidies, the emigration and construction of public works. Due to the need for increased agricultural production, the dissertation also includes the study of rural property, the division processes of the main wasteland of the municipality and the disputes for wasteland whit neighbouring municipalities, the results of the division of wasteland and the Wheat Campaign in the municipality and the resistance of farmers to join the agricultural associations. Finally, this dissertation assesses the need for improvement and construction of infrastructures and subsequent development of tourism in the municipality.
