At the top of the Arriba Fóssil da Caparica are the Raposeira batteries, two military buildings whose origins date back to the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. Conceived as part of Lisbon's Entrenched Camp, these constructions mark a new way of building and defending the city. Once important landmarks for the lands of Trafaria and Caparica, today they lie in ruins and abandoned. Their disuse and de-characterisation makes their rehabilitation essential, but it is the intervention of nature and time that has given them a patina that makes them fascinating today and that inspires this work. The title is intended to summarise the approach adopted. Beyond Defense means that we look at these places beyond their original purpose of protection, seeking to understand what human value is inscribed in those walls that deserves to be preserved, revisited and ultimately - through the Project - reinterpreted. The intervention will be based on a phenomenological approach, inspired by Pedro Abreu's Reading Process and the work of other illustrious authors. The aim is to decipher this correspondence that is created between the subject and the work and, through Architecture, to make these places once again worthy of being inhabited.
