| dc.description.abstract | What separates style and substance in drawing is brought into question in this project. The project is divided in two aspects: the preconceived theories of learning, art and semiotics, of which take in account both the common observer and either the novice or expert artist in relation to drawing; and the more practical segment which consists of an exercise where the author of the dissertation studied over fifty artists and follows it with its analysis (based on the process of executing said studies and the previously presented ideologies). The conclusion consists of criticizing the results of this project in comparison to initial expectations as well as to the theories that unite it with the larger world of art and didactics, commenting on the value of applying such and similar methods always in relation to one’s progress as both an artist and a draftsman. This dissertation explores how artists can learn from one another’s work in quantity and quality, and to unveil the more intricate questions that arise from such an attempt. Dualities, especially the ones within the question of what is stylistic and substantial in a drawing, need to have their line either sharpened or blurred according to certain aspects if the student is to find better means of self-expression. Uniting ideology with practicality, it is the prime objective that the exercise the author self-subjected himself to complete serving as a point of comparison and contrast for any other aspiring artist on the road of self-improvement. | pt_PT |
