In this investigation, we intend to analyze the presence of women in regard to the visits of the Portuguese Holy Office to Brazil colony, between 1591 and 1769, based on their confessions, denunciations and ratifications. To this end, we prioritized as sources the books of the visitations to the captaincies of Bahia, Pernambuco, Itamaracá and Paraíba (1591-1595), a second time to Bahia (1618-1620), to the captaincies of Rio de Janeiro, São Vicente and Espírito Santo (1627-1628), and to the state of Grão-Pará and Maranhão (1763-1769). Our central goal was to tell the way in which women had their narratives constituted and validated by inquisitorial writing, and to comprehend their specificities in terms of heresy, ethnicity, social status, marital status, and sex in relation to men and to the Kingdom. We found, foremost, historical and regional trends from the context of each visitation, a majority of women involved in cases of magic, judaism, and propositions, and gender marks distinct from certain heretical associations of heresies towards women.
