Abstract(s)
This research work, developed in the scope of the Master in Urban and Interior Design at Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, aims to address the design perspective, as well as the other parameters that contribute to the creation and development of a sustainable hotel unit. The implementation of this research involves a historical, political, and social analysis around tourism and sustainability, exploring the connection between these two branches and their advantages and disadvantages. For a better understanding of the research, it is divided into three parts. The first part addresses the contextualization of the theme, explaining what tourism is, the tourism system and its methodologies. In this first part we also contextualize the relationship of tourism with the current pandemic, understanding what strategies were created to circumvent it and what changes will be felt in the future of the hospitality industry based on this global crisis, never forgetting the approach to design and its importance as a field of action for tourism and ecology. In a second part and to better understand the parameters referred to in the previous phase, case studies, at a national and international level have been addressed and analyzed, demonstrating the implementation of methodologies presented in the first part of the research. Following all the research done, it is approached in a third part of the dissertation, practices common to the development of a successful sustainable hotel unit, where it is gathered some of the sustainable measures, in the social, economic, cultural and material scope, gathered throughout the research process, which are essential for those who seek to create a hotel project under a sustainable perspective, also realizing the importance of ecodesign implementation throughout the process development
