Este relatório tem o objetivo de discutir questões de tradução audiovisual (TAV)
do humor que surgiram durante a realização do estágio curricular na IndieLisboa –
Associação Cultural, no âmbito do mestrado em Tradução. As questões trabalhadas são
essencialmente de natureza lexical, integrando-se ainda questões socioculturais e temas
associados à tradução de canções.
A análise realizada no presente relatório tem em consideração aspetos teóricos
sobre a tradução, em particular sobre TAV, o humor e a tradução audiovisual do humor.
Foram selecionados exemplos específicos do filme Greener Grass, um dos que foram
traduzidos no âmbito do estágio.
O propósito é o de dar conta de diferentes níveis de dificuldades que possam surgir
na TAV, mostrando ao mesmo tempo que acrescentar o elemento do humor à TAV torna
a tarefa ainda mais desafiante. Mais ainda, a análise poderá demonstrar o nível de sucesso
da tradução, tanto a nível linguístico como a nível humorístico.
Para além de explorar a temática principal, a tradução audiovisual do humor, o
relatório também procura destacar o impacto que a cultura tem na tradução. Tendo em
conta que o filme analisado exibe propriedades linguísticas associadas especificamente à
cultura norte-americana, é relevante observar como isso pode determinar as escolhas
feitas na tradução. Assim, são apresentadas estratégias que permitem ultrapassar barreiras
que a cultura impõe quando existe comunicação, e consequentemente, tradução.
This report aims to discuss issues of audiovisual translation (AVT) of humor that emerged during the internship at IndieLisboa - Associação Cultural, as part of the Master's in Translation. The issues dealt with are essentially lexical in nature, but also include sociocultural issues and topics associated with the translation of songs. The analysis carried out in this report takes into consideration theoretical aspects of translation, particularly AVT, humor, and the audiovisual translation of humor. Specific examples have been selected from the movie Greener Grass, which was one of the films translated during the internship. The purpose is to demonstrate the different levels of difficulties that may arise in AVT, while also showing that adding the element of humor to AVT makes the task even more challenging. Furthermore, the analysis will be able to show the level of success of the translation, both linguistically and humorously. In addition to exploring the main theme, the audiovisual translation of humor, the report also seeks to highlight the impact that culture has on translation. Given that the film analyzed exhibits linguistic properties specifically associated with North American culture, it is relevant to observe how this can determine the choices that were made whilst translating. Thus, strategies are presented to overcome barriers that culture imposes when there is communication, and consequently, translation.
