Abstract(s)
This investigation, a PhD theses made with the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia scholarship, in the Bolsa de Doutoramento category (SFRH/BD/144253/2019), reflected on the question “Quando é desenho?”. The way in which we answer this question, was to start by thinking about what “language” is more suitable to write about drawing, followed by a brief history of the definition of drawing. This was made to understand what makes a piece a “drawing piece”. After the pillars of this investigation were recognized, we started to think about drawing as a system of belief, as something that cannot be proven but can be believed in. As this investigation is a practice-based one so we used drawings to think about drawing, in other words, we thought through drawing. We tested the practice to see how further it could take while still being “translatable” to words that can be on the theoretical part of the investigation. This investigation was anchored on the following questions: What is drawing? When is drawing? What makes a piece a “drawing piece”? Is believing in drawing worth it? After all the questions that we thought were fundamental to the investigation were built, we started to try to answer them. The following investigation represents a trace of that “trying”. We have tried to find the question, we tried to contribute for the answers, always having in mind the idea that this is not a prescriptive exercise, but an exercise that brings through the worries of one that beliefs makes drawings
