The present research is related to the study of resilience, neuroticism and diagnostic criteria of post-traumatic stress disorder associated with SR-SIDES - Self Report Inventory for Stress Disorders of Extreme. The overall objective aims to explore the relationship between resilience and neuroticism, and the associations between these concepts and the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder as described by the SIDES-SR. The sample consisted of 338 individuals of both genders, aged between 18 and 83 years old. The instruments used were: The Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale - CD-RISC (Connor & Davidson, 2003) translated and adapted in Portugal by Faria-Angels, Ribeiro and Ribeiro (2008); The Five Factors Inventory - NEO-FFI (Costa, P. & T. McCrae, R. R., 1989, 1992), translated and adapted by Portugal by Lima and Simões (2000); The SIDES-SR - Self-Report Inventory for Disorders of Extreme Stress, and a sociodemographic questionnaire. Results show a statistically significant negative correlation between resilience and neuroticism; resilience as a protective factor and neuroticism as a risk factor for the development of the pathology associated with the post-traumatic stress disorder. Results are discussed according to the literature. Limitations are pointed out and suggestions for future research are proposed.
