Em 10 de julho de 1769, é publicado pela Real Mesa Censória mais um dos seus editais. E este não era mesmo um qualquer papel. O referido documento tinha como principal objetivo proceder com a inventariação de todas as livrarias e acervos literários, particulares e institucionais, existentes em todo reino e nas suas possessões. A livraria do mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória do Porto, casa religiosa fundada em 1596, era uma delas. Tomando como partida o referido edital – ainda que não restrito exclusivamente a ele – esta pesquisa tem como principal objetivo pesquisar e recuperar a fisionomia da livraria do mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória, partindo da identificação das suas principais linhas de expressão temática e autoral, da sua variação temporal, bem como ainda das marcas de composição dos seus idiomas e de uma geografia literária das obras impressas que enriqueceram a sala de livros do mosteiro portuense. Consequentemente, trata-se ainda de dar a conhecer, a partir dos Estados de Tibães - uma série documental trienal que servia como relatório administrativo dos mosteiros beneditinos - o que entendemos ser uma política de desenvolvimento da livraria mediante as formas e a qualidade dos investimentos dedicados à casa, bem como a relação de algumas das obras compradas, das somas gastas e ainda outras mais atividades relativas à manutenção da sala de livros do mosteiro de São Bento da Vitória do Porto.
On July 10, 1769, Real Mesa Censória published one of its famous edicts. Its purpose was to proceed with an inventory of all books and literary collections, private and institutional, existing in every part of the kingdom and its possessions. The library of São Bento da Vitória´s monastery, a religious house founded in Porto 1596, was among those inventories. Taking as a starting point the mentioned edict - although not exclusively restricted to it - this dissertation aims to research and recover the main aspects of the São Bento da Vitória´s library, starting from the identification of its main lines of thematic and authorial expression, their temporal variation and publication languages, so a certain kind of so-called literary geography, based on the printed books city domains. Furthermore, given the documents produced by the Estado de Tibães, some triennial documentary series that served as an administrative report of the benedictine monasteries, this research also intends to understand the so-called development policy made by the librarians in order to pursue e allocate some of the monastery funds to enrich de library. Based on that, this research also seeks to understand how librarians spends the library funds, which books were bought, how much did it cost, and other activities based mainly on the conservation of library and monastic facilities.
