Abstract(s)
This research aims to answer a series of questions, such as: What is the origin of lithic material? What is the role of stone in the history of art and what is the relationship between the works of René Magritte and my artistic project? How does thinking of a stone as a character in a story for an illustrated album allow us to understand humanity in its symbolic practice? What is the relationship between the concept of the stone as an archetype and Carl Gustav Jung’s psychoanalysis? Can the stone be seen as an element of origin and represent an immovable and therefore lifeless entity, but at the same time represent a sense of life and eternity? What connection is there between the illustrated album Pietra and the artistic work of Pinuccio Sciola? How can the theme of immobility and movement be represented in a static object like stone? In order to answer these questions, the aims of this research are centred on the exploration and versatility of the stone object, from its origin to its transformation from a physical, symbolic, lithological and archetypal point of view, to its use in art as a material and artistic medium. In this respect, works by various artists will be presented, including René Magritte, Pinuccio Sciola, and the illustrated work A Pedra azul by Jimmy Liao, as examples and case studies to demonstrate the points in common with the artistic and creative poetics developed here
