Abstract(s)
Setúbal, outrora uma colónia romana, marcada pela sua relação com o rio Sado, sofreu um processo contínuo de reinvenção do seu território ao longo da História, dando lugar a novas formas de espaço urbano e transformações sociais.
Sobretudo durante a época industrial, a identidade da cidade sofreu várias mutações para se adaptar às necessidades desta época, como foi o caso da frente ribeirinha, alvo de uma redefinição da sua margem. Dentro deste processo evolutivo, pretende-se desenvolver uma reflexão que compreenda tanto o estudo da relação da cidade com a frente rio e a paisagem como também de elementos que definem a memória do lugar.
A cidade é rica em património arquitetónico, cultural, histórico, industrial e militar. É de grande importância a preservação da memória dos lugares patrimoniais, que para além de constituírem valores em si, também contribuem para o seu desenvolvimento.
O projeto Habitar o Baluarte nasce da necessidade de dar uma nova função ao Baluarte do Livramento como forma de recuperar os valores desta estrutura de arquitetura militar, trazendo de volta os valores espaciais e a vivência do conjunto histórico. Esta proposta também assenta no conceito de habitar, promovendo o encontro entre o individuo e a sua identidade cultural constituindo um lugar onde se possa habitar.
Propõe-se a construção de uma Pousada no interior do Baluarte como equipamento hoteleiro de modo a revitalizar a frente ribeirinha e a preservar a história do local, complementado pelo novo espaço público com ligação do centro histórico à frente rio e pelo redesenho da marginal de Setúbal. O equipamento tem como intuito trazer uma nova centralidade e contribuir para o desenvolvimento turístico do município de Setúbal.
Setúbal, once a Roman colony marked by its relationship between the land and the river Sado, has undergone a continuous process of invention and reinvention of the territory throughout its history, giving rise to new forms of urban space and social transformations. Especially during the industrial era, the city’s identity underwent several mutations to adapt to the needs, as was the case of the riverfront, the target of a redesign of the margin. Within this evolutionary character, it is intended to develop a reflection that comprises both the study of the city’s relationship with the riverfront and landscape and also of elements that portray the matrix and the memory of the Place. The city is full of different types of architectural, cultural, historical, industrial and military heritage. It is of great importance to preserve the memory of these places, as they represent it and contribute to its development. The Habitar o Baluarte project was born from the need to give a new function to Baluarte do Livramento as a way to recover the values of the space, bringing back the experience of the historical ensemble. This premise also seeks to relate the concept of living, promoting the encounter between the individual and his identity, constituting a place where he can live. The new Pousada appears within the bulwark as a hotel equipment revitalizing the riverfront that aims to preserve the history of the place, complemented by the new public space connecting the historic center to the riverfront and the redesign of the marginal Setúbal. The equipment is intended to bring a new centrality and contribute to the tourist development of the municipality of Setúbal.
