This research delves into activist practices within trans-pedagogical environments in Barcelona. Using a diverse methodology including semi-structured interviews, collaborative workshops, field tests, and analysis of communication strategies, the study aims to understand the configuration and operation of these spaces at the intersection of design, pedagogy, and activism. The perspectives of collaborators, students, teachers, neighbours, and witnesses to the migratory phenomenon are examined.
The primary objective is to uncover the specific characteristics that foster collaboration between social movements and designers, strengthening both social struggles and the emotions that underpin them. The research highlights that the effectiveness of these spaces is optimized when academic structures allow for participation, and when social movements engage in horizontal and collaborative processes involving their social bases.
This study challenges conventional environments where social struggles unfold, both within and beyond academia. It suggests that individuals including students, teachers, external actors, witnesses, and subordinates can engage in these spaces with critical sensitivity, potentially leading to their rejuvenation and reconfiguration. The research makes a significant contribution to the fields of critical pedagogy and social design, with implications for social movement theory and activist practices.
