Carências em vitamina D: diagnóstico e terapêutica

Objetivo:
Na viragem para o século XXI, a investigação acerca do papel da vitamina D na saúde global ganhou uma relevância preponderante dada a descoberta da alta prevalência das carências desta vitamina na população mundial. Era já conhecida a sua fisiologia na saúde óssea, contudo novos estudos apontam para funções da vitamina muito mais abrangentes.
A revisão de conjunto proposta visa esclarecer a situação atual da investigação em curso acerca da vitamina D bem como o diagnóstico e terapêutica aplicados aquando da sua carência.
Métodos:
Com recurso às metodologias de pesquisa aplicadas à investigação, realizou-se a pesquisa de dados bibliográficos através das palavras-chave: vitamin D, vitamin D deficiency; vitamin D prevalence; vitamin D deficiency diagnosis; vitamin D deficiency treatment. Dos artigos e documentos oficiais obtidos sobre o tema selecionaram-se os mais pertinentes, os quais foram estudados intensivamente com o objetivo de recolher a informação essencial à realização desta revisão de conjunto.
Conclusão:
Decorrido mais de meio século sobre a descoberta da molécula da vitamina D, a sua funcionalidade no bem-estar geral de saúde continua a ser uma incógnita. As carências em vitamina D são conhecidas como muito prevalentes em todo o mundo, no entanto não existem ainda estudos suficientes que permitam alcançar resultados concretos.
Mesmo no que concerne ao diagnóstico da deficiência em vitamina D, a variabilidade dos métodos não permite ainda a determinação de baixas concentrações em 25(OH)D com grande precisão. O tratamento das carências em vitamina D consiste na modificação de hábitos alimentares e, se necessário, na suplementação com calciferol.
Objective: Since the end of the 20th century and through the beginning of the 21st, researches regarding the role of vitamin D on global health gained a very relevant part, due to a wide lack of this vitamin in the world population. This vitamin’s physiology on bone health was already known. Nonetheless, new studies point out a more comprehensive role of this vitamin. This monograph aims to describe the status of the current research activities on vitamin D, as well as the diagnoses and medications to be applied when its deficiency is verified. Methodology: By resorting to the research methodologies commonly applied to investigation, a study on bibliographic data was performed based on the following key words: vitamin D, vitamin D deficiency; vitamin D prevalence, vitamin D deficiency diagnosis; vitamin D deficiency treatment. From all the articles and documents which have been collected regarding the above mentioned mater, the most relevant ones were thoroughly studied with the purpose of collecting the bulk of information which is deemed the most essential for this monograph. Conclusion: After more than half a century having gone by over the discovery of vitamin D molecule, its role and purpose on the general welfare is still yet to be fully discovered. Vitamin D deficiencies are known to be prevailing throughout the world, however sufficient studies haven´t still been carried out to allow concrete results to be achieved on the subject. Even in which concerns to the diagnosis of Vitamin D deficiency, the current existing methods don´t allow low concentration levels of 25(OH)D to be measured with sufficiently accurate precision. The treatment of Vitamin D deficiencies should be achieved through the changing of current eating habits and, if needed be, supplementation with calciferol.
