O governo japonês está comprometido a desenvolver os corredores logísticos na
África Austral, com o objectivo de fomentar o crescimento económico da região e de
rentabilizar os seus investimentos. Os seus projectos no Corredor de Nacala prendem-se
com a criação de um sistema de transporte eficiente. Mas até que ponto é que
Moçambique, o Malawi e a Zâmbia beneficiam deste projecto? A presente dissertação tem
como principal objectivo avaliar o impacto que os projectos da cooperação japonesa no
Corredor de Nacala têm no desenvolvimento económico dos países envolvidos e da região.
Pretende-se, então, em primeiro lugar, examinar a assistência japonesa a vários
níveis, com vista a compreender a sua complexidade e o porquê do seu modelo de
desenvolvimento ser considerado único. Com esta contextualização, torna-se, em seguida,
mais fácil de entender o interesse japonês por África, em especial por Moçambique, e a
importância do processo TICAD para o desenvolvimento económico do continente.
Por último, é feita uma avaliação do impacto dos projectos de reabilitação e
desenvolvimento do Corredor de Nacala, considerando as implicações que terão para
Moçambique e para os países vizinhos, pretendendo, desta forma, ressalvar as vantagens e
desvantagens da implementação de um projecto deste género
The Japanese government is committed to developing the logistics corridors in Southern Africa, with the aim of promoting the economic growth of the region and to monetize their investments. Its projects in the Nacala Corridor relate to the creation of an efficient transport system. But to what extent will Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia benefit from this project? This thesis aims to assess the impact that the projects of the Japanese cooperation in the Nacala Corridor have on the economic development of the countries involved and the region. First, it is intended to examine the Japanese assistance at various levels, in order to understand its complexity and why its development model is considered unique. In this context, it is easier to understand the Japanese interest in Africa, especially in Mozambique, and the importance of the TICAD process on the continent’s economic development. Finally, an assessment of the impact of rehabilitation projects and development of the Nacala Corridor is made, considering the implications that will have for Mozambique and its neighbouring countries. This assessment will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of implementing a project of this kind.
