actualmente devoluto e desactivado.
Calçada da Ajuda, belonging to the parishes of Ajuda and Belém, is located in a demographic context with one of the highest aging indices in the city of Lisbon, although also accommodating younger population temporarily residing in the area due to the presence of universities. Throughout the Calçada, we encounter historical buildings with heritage value, yet there is still a need to implement new dynamics and activities to benefit and include the elderly, so as to act as a catalyst towards creating relationships between residents of different age groups and bringing demographics together in the city, making it a place of greater permanence and stay for its resident and surrounding community. In a rehabilitation approach, the former Regimento de Lanceiros nº2, Belém – which is currently vacant and deactivated – was chosen as an object of study. The aim is to intervene in the edifice area, respecting its pre-existence and heritage value, equipping the outdoor space with structures suitable for the community, while turning this previously inaccessible space into a public area woven into the urban fabric of the city. To be a part of the solution towards the challenges of a growing aging population, it was sought to intervene within the theme of “active aging”, equipping the architectural space with conditions that promote a healthy lifestyle, the integration of the elderly into the community, the relationship between various generations, and a dignified and happy aging.
