As hipóteses
The Gambling Disorder and the Internet Gaming Disorder are the only behavioral addictive disorders identified until this moment, of which the progresses on investigation are a result of the growing concern by the scientific community for the impact of these problematics on health care worldwide. Therefore, the main goal of this study is to describe and characterize, through quantitative measures, two Portuguese clinical samples from Instituto de Apoio ao Jogador (IAJ), according to their sociodemographic features and other psychological dimensions (psychological distress, impulsivity, personality traits and quality of life). Taking this goal into account, both are convenience samples, one composed by 125 gamblers with ages between 16 and 70 years old, in which 4 participants identified themselves as females and another one by 19 male gamers with a mean age of 24 years old. It was verified that the two samples present normal values of quality of life (except Psychological dimension), psychological distress (except Psychoticism) and personality traits, compared to the mean of the Portuguese population. Impulsivity varied according to sex and the impulsivity dimension evaluated by BIS‑11. Regarding to the personality dimensions measured through EPQ‑R, the results are above median of general population, on both samples. The hypothesis that was suggested about the psychological dimensions evaluated were partially supported. This study allows us understand the profile of these two kinds of groups at a clinical context, which has implications for the development of more effective prevention and intervention programs.
