This work seeks to evaluate the tourism potential of Macao´s historic gardens and to
present a proposal for an itinerary that includes the most relevant ones. Thus, its local
biophysical, historical, and cultural characteristics were studied. A special focus was given to
its architecture. The case of Macao was studied in what concerns the protection of its
heritage, considering that its historic centre is in the UNESCO‟s World Heritage List since
2005, and the relationship between its economy and tourism.
Macao´s historic gardens, as a heritage whose uniqueness derives from the
intercultural living that characterizes the territory, play a key part in the diversification of local
tourism.
In this work, its history, influences and particularities were studied and an evaluation
of each historic garden was made. Finally, a proposal for an itinerary to be integrated in the
most common tourist circuits in the territory is presented.
