O sistema hepatobiliar contribui imenso para o bem estar do ser humano, porque desempenha várias funções muito importantes para o organismo. As consequências da disfunção deste sistema são quase sempre muito graves ou mesmo fatais. Segundo os dados da Organização Mundial da Saúde, patalogias ao nível do sistema hepatobiliar são um dos maiores fatores da mortalidade na União Europeia. Uma das funções deste sistema é a filtração do sangue feita pelo fígado. Por isso, em termos da toxidade este orgão pode ser o alvo das susbstâncias tóxicas existentes no sangue. Há muitos produtos que são perigosos para o fígado e que podem causar a morte das células deste orgão. Entre estas substâncias uma grande parte pertence a alguns medicamentos, tais como antidepressivos, quimioterapêuticos contra cancro, anti-inflamatórios e analgésicos. Até os próprios medicamentos sintéticos para curar doenças hepatobiliares podem ter efeitos negativos para este sistema.
Devido à existência do problema importante a este nível, é necessário desenvolver o tratamento eficaz e seguro das enfermidades do sistema hepatobiliar. As plantas medicinais podem contribuir para o desenvolvimento de métodos da cura e da prevenção destas doenças. Também, vale a pena, mencionar que só a utilização correta destas plantas pode melhorar o estado da saúde do doente, visto que o uso inadequado das mesmas pode provocar efeitos negativos.
Neste trabalho vão ser abordados vários tópicos acerca do uso das plantas medicinais para tratamento das doenças do sistema hepatobiliar. Em primeiro lugar, será referida a importância das plantas medicinais ao nível mundial e a história da utilização destas plantas para o tratamento de várias enfermidades. Também será abordado o sistema hepatobiliar e as doenças relacionadas com o mesmo. Este trabalho concentrar-se-á principalmente nas 4 plantas medicinais: Taraxacum officinale (L.) Weber ex F.H. Wigg., Rosmarinus officinalis L., Glycyrrhiza glabra L., Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees.
The hepatobiliary system contributes immensely to the well being of the human, because it performs several very important functions for the organism. The consequences of the dys-function of this system are almost always very serious or even fatal. According to data from the World Health Organization, pathologies at the level of the hepatobiliary system are one of the biggest factors of mortality in the European Union. One of the functions of this system is the filtration of blood done by the liver. Therefore, in terms of toxicity, this organ can be the target of toxic substances in the blood. There are many products that are dangerous to the liver and can cause the death of the cells of this organ. Among these substances a large part belongs to some drugs and most toxic, of them are antidepressants, chemotherapeutic against cancer, anti-inflammatory and analgesics. Even synthetic drugs to cure hepatobiliary diseases themselves can have negative effects on this system. Due to the existence of the important problem at this level, it is necessary to develop an effec-tive and safe treatment of diseases of the hepatobiliary system. Medicinal plants can contrib-ute to the development of methods for the cure and prevention of these diseases. Also, it is worth mentioning that only the correct use of these plants can improve the patient's state of health, since their improper use can cause negative effects. In this work, several topics will be addressed about the use of medicinal plants to treat diseas-es of the hepatobiliary system. Firstly, the importance of medicinal plants worldwide and the history of the use of these plants for the treatment of various diseases will be mentioned. The hepatobiliary system and related diseases will also be addressed. This work will focus mainly on the 4 medicinal plants: Taraxacum officinale (L.) Weber ex F.H. Wigg., Rosmarinus offic-inalis L., Glycyrrhiza glabra L., Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees.
