Abstract(s)

The question of space, be it concrete, analogical or digital, has always been, and will always continue to be a fundamental value of sculpture. This proposal has to do with the desire to determine a systematic vision regarding the way in which any sculpture of the 20th century, while fleeing from the presuppositions of modernism, has become a precursor to one of the most influential aspects of contemporary (or post-modernist) sculpture; that of excessive scale and the immersive dimension of the spectator. The approach of this proposal is structured upon the following: Kolossós and Colossal (genealogy and morphology of sculpture); Spatial dimension as a subversion of modernism; Sensation of immersion and colossal scale; Contemporary sculpture in the crossroads between physical, analogical and digital space. Although this approach does not refer explicitly to the question of cyberspace, it does however, aim to establish elements for a wider reflection on the notions and implications of the various modes of space
