Abstract(s)
Clothing consumption has never been so surplus and ephemeral in contemporary society. The consequences of this practice are essentially the result of a linear fashion product life cycle, which has led to numerous social and environmental consequences. Thus, the main problem to be investigated focuses on the mass consumption of the fashion and textile industry today, namely its negative impacts. The proposal seeks to highlight the effectiveness of design and museography as a way of alleviating the problem. The aim of this research is to understand how wearable art technology and/or clothing as an art object can become vehicles for transmitting messages and tools for behavioural change. The project takes the form of an exhibition script, the purpose of which is to educate and encourage society to reflect on the damage caused my mass consumption behaviour. In this way, the solution translates into a narrative driven by scientific-technological knowledge as well as art and design. Sensory design is, in its synthesis, one of the branches of the design discipline investigated in this study, which seeks to embrace the multiplicity of human beings when solving problems. The aim is to promote a multi-sensory experience, since both clothing and the senses are broad concepts which can be associated with almost everyone. The methodology used for this research is qualitative, and the design method is based on Damien Newman’s The Design Squiggle model (Newman, s.d.). The study contributes to bringing to the stage of museology themes to contemplate, make people think about and that act on the issue of the desire to consume, meeting the objectives of sustainable development
