Recognising that typography is an essential element in communicating information to readers, this dissertation project aims to improve communication and accessibility in hospital and educational environments, and other places where it is needed, by designing an inclusive typeface. The research is based on a theoretical framework that explores the concepts of type design and inclusive design, highlighting Universal Design and Design for All approaches. The methodology involves an interactive approach, from theoretical research to the development and refinement of the font, called 'Hygia', and testing in real environments. There was a strong preference for the Hygia font among the participants, especially among readers with some form of reading difficulty. It was also concluded that this font could be a good vehicle for delivering information, particularly in relation to special education, emphasising its engaging and playful character. The effective dissemination of this font, supported by educational strategies, aims to ensure its successful and continued adoption in hospital environments. This project represents a significant contribution at the intersection of communication design, typography, and healthcare, offering a comprehensive approach to improving user experience and promoting more accessible communication in hospital environmentspt_PT
