A frente ribeirinha de Setúbal constitui um elemento barreira que separa a cidade do rio Sado. O processo de desindustrialização da margem provoca a desactivação desta zona que, pelo seu carácter menos nobre e operacional, não assegurava condições viáveis à vivência da população. Embora se tenham realizado planos de regeneração deste espaço, ainda é composta, em certas áreas, por edifícios devolutos e vazios urbanos que reflectem uma imagem pouco coerente e desarticulada fase à cidade consolidada.
O desenvolvimento da proposta arquitectónica visa em colmatar as problemáticas e carências da área afectada, procurando reintegra-la na cidade de modo a potenciar uma zona de excelência da cidade.
Neste sentido, introdução de uma residência de estudante no interior do baluarte do Livramento e a requalificação do seu espaço envolvente permitirá restabelecer e fortalecer a relação da cidade com o rio e fomentar a vivência pública do lugar.
Setúbal's waterfront is a barrier that separates the city from the Sado river. The process of deindustrialization of the waterfront led to its abandonment given that the less valuable and operational nature of the area, it did not provide viable living conditions for the population. Although plans have been developed to regenerate this area, particular places are still made-up of vacant buildings and urban voids, that set an image of a less coherent and disjointed territory when compared to the consolidated city. The development of the architectural proposal aims to address the problems and shortcomings of the affected area, seeking to reintegrate it into the city to enhance an area of excellence in the city. To this end, the introduction of student halls of residence inside the Livramento bastion and the requalification of its surroundings aims to re-establish and strengthen the city's relationship with the river and to foster a public experience on this site.
