  • The relevance of feedback environment for job satisfaction
Publication . Mosquera, Pilar; Soares, Maria Eduarda; Ribeiro, Filomena
The effectiveness of feedback given by managers in performance appraisal processes is largely influenced by situational factors and has important repercussions for employee performance and satisfaction. This study attempts to clarify the role played by two situational factors, Feedback Environment and Satisfaction with Feedback, for employee Job Satisfaction. Using a sample of 170 participants, the study analyses a conceptual framework and tests hypotheses through Partial Least Squares (PLS). Results indicate an impact of two dimensions of Feedback Environment, namely Source Credibility and Feedback Quality, for both Satisfaction with Feedback and Job Satisfaction. It was also found that age is a moderator of the relationship between the two Feedback Environment dimensions and Satisfaction with Feedback: the older the employees, the lower the effect of Feedback Quality and the higher the effect of Source Credibility for Satisfaction with Feedback. Contrary to expectations, Satisfaction with Feedback does not mediate the relationship between Feedback Environment and Job Satisfaction.
  • The contribution of physical exercise to organisational performance
Publication . Marques, Ivo; Balle, Andrea Raymundo; Curado, Carla
Maintaining high levels of employee’s performance at work is a major concern among managers. Employees’ characteristics and individual performance contribute to the competitiveness of organisations. The current work environment is highly sedentary, which influences employees’ performance. This quantitative study investigates the moderating effect of physical exercise on the relationships between job satisfaction, motivation, and organisational performance. Data was collected using an online questionnaire and it was analysed using structural equation modelling and moderation analysis. The results show the existing relationships between job satisfaction, intrinsic motivation and performance regarding both dimensions of organisational performance: creativity and dealing with emergencies. Such relationships are moderated by the level of exercise performed by the employees.
  • Competences development and organisational commitment : mediation through employability and moderation by generation
Publication . Moreira, Ana; Cesário, Francisco; Chambel, Maria José; Castanheira, Filipa
The main objective of this study is to test the mediating effect of perceived internal employability on the relationship between organisational practices of competences development and affective commitment, and also to test the moderating effect of different generations in this mediation. The sample has 302 participants, who are employees in several organisations based in Portuguese territory. We verified the mediating effect of the employability perception in the relationship between organisational practices of competences development (individualised support and functional rotation) and affective commitment. Regarding the moderating effect of the generations, this effect was verified in the relationship between the organisational competences development practices and the affective commitment in the liaison between the organisational practices of competences development and the perception of internal employability and in the connection between the perception of internal employability and affective commitment.
