- Digital transformation, state Hei performance and the moderating role of leadershipPublication . Carvalho, Alba; Leitão, João; Alves, HelenaConsidering the importance of Digital Transformation (DT) for better performance in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), and the role played by leadership in the DT process, this study has a twin aim. The first is to analyse how DT can influence different performance dimensions of State HEIs. The second is to analyse the possible moderating effect of leadership styles on the relation between DT and these HEIs’ performance. To do so, a composite index of DT was elaborated and applied to websites of Brazilian and Iberian State HEIs. Through application of the PLS-SEM method, it was identified that three dimensions of DT are found to have a positive and significant influence on performance in research, transfer, internationalization and sustainability in Brazilian HEIs. In turn, three dimensions of DT influence performance in research and transfer in Iberian HEIs. Despite not confirming the moderating effect of leadership, this study revealed that the interaction between cybernetic and shared leadership styles and DT has a positive and significant influence on research performance in Brazilian HEIs. The empirical evidence presented here can support grounded, prioritized decision-making by managers and governors, in order to ensure improved DT and performance in the HEIs studied.
- Public Administration and Values Oriented to Sustainability: A Systematic Approach to the LiteraturePublication . Marques, Isabel; Leitão, João; Carvalho, Alba; Pereira, DinaValues guide actions and judgements, form the basis of attitudinal and behavioral processes, and have an impact on leaders’ decision-making, contributing to more sustainable performance. Through a bibliometric study and content analysis, 2038 articles were selected from Scopus, from the period 1994–2021, presenting global research tendencies on the subject of values, public administration, and sustainability. The results indicate that Sustainability is the most productive journal, the main research category is in social sciences, the most productive institution is the University of Queensland, the location with the most publications and research collaborations is the USA, and the authors with the greatest number of articles are Chung, from Chung-Ang University; García-Sánchez, from the University of Salamanca; and Pérez, from the University of Cantabria. Analysis of keywords shows that the most relevant are “sustainability”, “CSR”, “sustainable development”, “innovation”, and “leadership”. Time analysis of keywords reveals a tendency for lines of research in the social and work area. The results also provide data about the framing of studies in sustainability pillars and the types of values referred to and indicate the main areas of public administration studied. Finally, a future research agenda is proposed.
