A investigação desenvolveu-se em duas turmas do 3º ciclo do Ensino Básico de uma escola dos subúrbios de Lisboa, tendo uma delas sido submetida ao procedimento experimental e a outra reservada como turma de controlo, segundo um design quasi-experimental. A intervenção consistiu num conjunto de sessões implementadas a partir de três narrativas oriundas de diferentes culturas, com recurso a estratégias interculturais, dirigidas à valorização da diferença. A partir dos dados recolhidos, através da análise de conteúdo e da sociometria, concluiu-se que, na turma experimental, se verificaram mudanças importantes a nível das atitudes e também das relações intergrupais. Assistiu-se a uma melhoria da comunicação entre os grupos étnicos e uma melhor integração dos alunos, especialmente, os de ascendência não lusa. A nível das atitudes registou-se um decréscimo nos preconceitos e na discriminação/rejeição e um aumento em valores tais como a solidariedade, partilha e aceitação do outro.The present study had as its objective the investigation of the use of a multicultural short story in the scope of the Portuguese Language, which was conducted through the use of a pedagogical apparatus conducive to the changes in the students’ attitudes towards the diversity, as well as the integration of ethnic minority students. The investigation was carried out in two distinct classrooms of the 7th grade in a school located in the suburbs of Lisbon, in which one of the classrooms was subject to an experimental procedure, while the other was maintained as a control group, according to quasi experimental design. The intervention consisted of a set of sessions implemented on the basis of three short stories, which have different cultural backgrounds, with intercultural strategies and which are focused in valorizing the diversity. From the data that was collected, through content analysis and of the sociometric tests, we concluded that in the experimental classroom significant changes were verified in the students’ attitudes, as well as in the inter-group relationships. An improvement in the communication between the different ethnic groups occurred, as well as a better integration of the students was observed, especially in those of non-portuguese ancestry.
