Partiremos da preparação da jornada ao submundo e dedicar-nos-emos aos elementos mortuários e infernais relacionados, como o catálogo de costumes funerários estrangeiros, as duas sacerdotisas de Cumas que guiam a viagem, os vários catálogos que descrevem o submundo, o sistema de julgamento e as sombras dos mortos no submundo. Por fim, pretendemos refletir sobre as análises realizadas e sobre o processo de tradução.This work will focus on the depiction of the underworld in book 13 of Punica, a Latin epic by Silius Italicus. It aims to introduce a Latin-Portuguese translation of this episode, highlighting Silius’ continuation, adaptation and innovation of the Homeric and Vergilian poetic traditions. We will start by exploring the preparation for the journey to the underworld and then continue the analysis of the mortuary and infernal elements, such as the catalogue of foreign funerary customs, the two Cumaean priestesses who guide the journey, the various catalogues describing in detail the underworld, the underworld judgement system and the portrayal of shadows of the dead.
