For every 100 people of working age, there are an average of 38 elderly people. Who are these people? What is the state of the elderly in Portugal? In an attempt to combat isolation, we are beginning to see the introduction of Senior Universities. This type of institution has enabled a better introduction to the digital world and to education, giving our senior citizens the opportunity to remain more active and stimulated. With the idea of energising and getting to know the students who attend this type of institution better, a workshop was created to develop fanzines with the students of the Rainha D. Leonor Senior University in Caldas da Rainha and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Leiria. The idea of developing fanzines stems from the very history of this form of editorial exploration, which offers students the opportunity to be creative to the point of producing a personal and intimate edition based on their memories, or to create something of a more imaginative nature. This activity is suitable for learning and getting to know these individuals better, to the point where we can give them a voice. With this collection of information, we moved on to the second phase of our project: the creation of a book based on experiences from fanzines. This book aims, through an appealing story and authentic characters, to help spread this ‘voice’ and bring generations together and empower this age group in our society. In this way, we can confirm that this project and dissertation fulfils the aims set out and is a good response to the objectives of this work: ‘How the object book can be a tool for empowering the elderly’porTerceira IdadeEmpoderamentoDesign editorialFanzinesLivroArte participativaIdadismoEstudos de casoAs crianças da minha terra: de que modo o livro objeto pode ser uma ferramenta no empoderamento da terceira idademaster thesis203920481
