This dissertation begins with a development of this concept of duty of memory where the end and the fragment are revealed as key concepts for the ongoing of this duty of memory as a duty to not Forget. Remembrance is directly related with forgetting and once connected with imagination turns into the so called remembrance-image. Following Bergson’s notion of coalescence of time, the theory of deleuzian crystal –image comes up as response of remembrance-image, and turns crystallization into the imagetic corollary of the duty to not Forget. By producing the effect of crystallization throught the moving image, both Bill Viola’s The Passing and Prisoner Pair by Tacita Dean function as key works in this dissertation. Although The Passing draws upon a private past and prisoner pair upon a public past, both seem to provoke a time suspension. The video Moira Cristal, functions not only as a result of a research process, but also as a constituent part of it. Allowing a time suspension, crystallization is seen as the process that completes the duty to not ForgetporDean, TacitaViola, Bill, 1951-Arte vídeoMemóriaMorteEsquecimentoDeverImagem - CristalMoira Cristalentre o dever de memória e a cristalizaçãomaster thesis201273918
