Calado, Margarida, 1947-Meira, Carla Maria Moreira Candeias, 1971-2016-04-282016-04-282016-01-222016-04-28http://hdl.handle.net/10451/23564The present study aims to clarify the evolution of the College of Arts and highlight the enormous contribution that Archimedes da Silva Santos gave to the development of a pedagogical idea that values artistic expressions, in a global concept, in the harmonious growth of the child and the individual. It becomes clear that the experience of the College of Arts was constituted as part of an innovative attempt, and made possible the introduction of artistic expressions, although cautious, in the structure of the national curricula, particularly with respect to the first years of schooling. Thus, this work contains a review of the different periods of its existence, its institutional framework and the reference to the various participants that, with their diversity of ideas and actions, contributed to the implementation of this educational experience. Moreover, the contributions of the research carried out at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, through its centre of Pedagogical Research, were fundamental in the creation of the College of Arts with regards to the education of artistic expressions and the desire to connect arts and pedagogical sciences. This study also took into consideration, the combination of the college´s curricular evolution, trying to respond to the problems it faced, in order to ensure it’s survival, given the difficulties of recognition and normative and institutional credibility, in the different periods and political contexts that it went through. In this study, it was very important to consider the remarkable legacy of Professor Archimedes da Silva Santos, a product of his research and investigation work. His contribution to artistic education in Portugal is a result of his perseverance in defending an educational context that relates to art and education, proposing innovative concepts for his time: Child Psychology in artistic expression and Expressive Re-education, creating a relationship between science, education and artporSantos, Arquimedes da Silva, 1921-Escola Superior de Educação pela ArteEducação pela arteExpressão artísticaPsicopedagogiaA Escola Superior de Educação pela Arte e o contributo do Dr. Arquímedes da Silva Santosmaster thesis201485486
