This collection comprises 199 individual bone elements, now integrated into 59 inventory forms. It includes both human and non-human osteological material, among which there are articulated and disarticulated skeletons, individual bones and bone fragments. The osteological specimens presented here have been used as teaching tools in the visual arts education model implemented by academies and fine arts schools since the Italian Renaissance. The type of artistic practice supported by this model consisted in nude representations, which therefore implied the study of osteological and myological structures of the human body. The collection being studied was found decoupled from its patrimonial value and exposed to conditions unfavourable to its preservation. In order to overcome this problem, a bone inventory has been made as well as the implementation of a set of practices and procedures most suitable for a collection such as this.
