The theme of this paper is the memento mori and the unheimlich in the photographed human body. The theoretical side of this dissertation is composed by a first part, where it is made an analysis of two concepts, memento mori and unheimlich, based on articles written by Sigmund Freud, followed by an application of those concepts on the field of photography, with the works of Laura Mulvey, Rosalind Krauss, Hal Foster, Susan Sontag, Roland Barthes, and others, as fundament for this application. The second part concerns the artistic references, complied by the works of Jorge Molder, Hans Bellmer and Tony Oursler.
