We defined our work from the curriculum framework and the characterization of the school context. As mentioned in the Curriculo Nacional do Ensino Básico, regarding artistic education, the literacy in arts implies the acquisition of competence: the appropriation of elementary art language, development of the expression and communication capacity, development of creativity and comprehension of the arts in a context. Therefore, the students got to know some of the techniques used on sculpture like coinage, foundry, modeling, the process of making molds, among others and developed several studies for medals, applying the acquired knowledge. Besides the technical experience, we used the historical context and documentation about the medal, with bigger focus on Portuguese authors, supporting them in the use of several didactic resources.
