A análise deste espaço geográfico permite identificar uma primeira realidade, muito característica, que se estende desde a zona mais ocidental da Península de Lisboa até ao interior do estuário do Tejo (Cartaxo) e que se pode facilmente associar a uma certa capitalidade do núcleo de Lisboa sobre esta região. Esta marcada influência diminui apenas nas áreas mais setentrionais do curso do Tejo, onde se torna visível, a partir dos momentos mais tardios da Idade do Ferro, um confluir de influências que incluem não só alguns elementos mais característicos do espaço mais litoral mas também de outras tendências relacionadas com zonas mais interiores do território peninsular, e que se podem associar a realidades de matriz «celtizante». Neste trabalho, procura-se apresentar uma leitura abrangente destas diversas situações, através da sistematização dos dados disponíveis sobre as diferentes estratégias territoriais e económicas desenvolvidas na região, de forma a caracterizar a diversidade cultural ao longo do Baixo Tejo durante a segunda metade do 1º milénio a.C.The mid 1st millennium BC marks a phase of considerable changes in the western Atlantic coast of the Portuguese territory, which occurs particularly in the context of the territory´s occupation and exploitation strategies, as well as in the framework of the material culture. The analysis of this geographic region enables the identification of a first scenery, quite characteristic, that extends from the Lisbon Peninsula´s western area to the interior of the Tagus estuary, up to the area of Cartaxo, and that can be easily associate with a certain domain of Lisbon´s settlement across this region. This influence decreases only in the northernmost areas of the Tagus course, particularly during the Iron Age latest stages, where we observe a confluence of influences that include not only some of the most characteristic elements of the aforementioned area, but also other trends relating to the innermost parts of the Iberian Peninsula, related with «Celtic» influences.
