Martins, Serafina, 1963-Almeida, Joana Marques de2016-02-022016-02-0220152015http://hdl.handle.net/10451/22515Tese de doutoramento, Estudos de Literatura e de Cultura (Estudos Portugueses), Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Letras, 2015O presente trabalho debruça-se sobre seis romances portugueses de autoria feminina publicados ao longo da década de 50 do século XX e início da de 60: A Origem (1958), de Graça Pina de Morais, Terra de Nod (1961), de Judite Navarro, Bárbara Casanova (1955), de Maria da Graça Azambuja, Companheiros (1959), de Ester de Lemos, Grades Vivas (1954), de Celeste Andrade, e Autobiografia de uma Mulher Romântica (1954), de Natália Nunes. Estas autoras, e outras suas contemporâneas, embora tenham gozado de alguma visibilidade no passado, encontram-se hoje quase completamente esquecidas tanto pela crítica quanto pelo público em geral. Pretende-se, por isso, aqui, dar-lhes nova voz, resgatá-las da obscuridade, até porque os textos que deixaram como legado constituem um contributo significativo para a história da literatura portuguesa. O estudo das obras tem como fio condutor o elo desenvolvido entre as respectivas protagonistas e o espaço casa. Procura-se, pois, mostrar como a conquista da esfera pública levada a cabo pelas principais personagens femininas, as quais, jovens, independentes e determinadas, espelham a crescente emancipação da mulher na sociedade em mudança do pós-guerra, se articula com a intimidade acolhedora da habitação. O mundo privado que as paredes protectoras delimitam e o outro mais vasto que o envolve são vistos, assim, como lugares complementares, e não opostos, já que circular livremente neste último implica o auto-conhecimento e o crescimento interior que só o primeiro torna possível. Este faz, portanto, parte integrante das figuras que o habitam, prolongando-as e fortalecendo-as, através de uma relação simbiótica. A análise dos romances ilustra que semelhante relação, embora se revele sempre estreita, pode assumir formas diversas, de acordo com as características da construção em si e de quem no seu interior se movimenta, dando então origem a diferentes tipos de casa: casa cósmica, casa natal, casa sonhada, casa-refúgio, casa-prisão e casa miniatural. Cada uma destas casas corresponde a um romance, sendo todas elas, mesmo partilhando traços, tratadas separadamente, ao longo da segunda parte do trabalho. Na primeira parte, de carácter mais teórico, são apontadas as circunstâncias sócio-culturais que, de modo geral, levaram estas autoras a escrever, assim como algumas características que conferem unidade aos seus textos, passando-se ainda pela questão da escrita feminina, ou da autoria feminina, vista apenas enquanto fenómeno histórico, social e literário. Ainda nesta primera parte, apresenta-se uma breve reflexão sobre o espaço, visto numa perspectiva mais geral, para logo depois se observar a casa em particular, tendo em conta alguns dos elementos que a condicionam e influenciam, como a paisagem envolvente, o recorte interior, a passagem do tempo, ou o modo como esta é apreendida, e até o próprio habitante, ponto de partida profícuo para a análise dos romances que se lhes segue.The object of the present work is the study of six novels written by six Portuguese women writers along the fifties and the beginning of the sixties of the XXth century. And they are: A Origem (1958), by Graça Pina de Morais, Terra de Nod (1961), by Judite Navarro, Bárbara Casanova (1955), by Maria da Graça Azambuja, Companheiros (1959), by Ester de Lemos, Grades Vivas (1954), by Celeste Andrade, and Autobiografia de uma Mulher Romântica, (1954), by Natália Nunes.These women writers, and a few others of the same period, although having enjoyed some notoriety in the past, today they are completely forgotten both by the critics and the readers. Therefore, it is my intention to give them a new voice, to rescue them from the shadow, because their works are a valuable tribute to the history of Portuguese literature. The leading line of the present work is the connection between the female main characters of each novel and their respective home spaces. Because they are young, independent and resolute, they are the reflection of the growing emancipation of women in the changing society of post-war. The purpose is to show how the conquest of the public space by these women is connected to the warm intimacy of their homes. Both the private world protected by the surroundig walls, and the outside wider world around it are considered as complementary elements and not opposite, because in order to be able to walk freely in the second it is necessary to reach the self-knowledge and inner growing that only the first one can provide. This intimate home space is, therefore, part of those who inhabit there, making them bigger and stronger through a symbiotic relatioship. The analysis of the referred novels shows that this relatioship, being always narrow, can reveal different forms according to the characteristics of the construction itself, as well as of those who inhabit it, giving birth to different types of houses, like the cosmic house, the birth house, the dreamed house, the shelter-house, the prison-house and the miniature house. Each one corresponds to a novel and is studied separately in the second part of this work. In the first part, more theoretical, are described the socio-cultural circumstances that led these women to write, as well as some characteristics that give unity to the various texts, referring as well the issue of female writing, or writing made by women, looked upon as a historical, social and literary phenomenon.
