That’s why they have always played an important role in society, becoming very useful in various aspects of people’s daily lives, such as culture, education and pleasure. The huge number of films we can access, and the important role of emotions, make the ability to access, view and search for films based on their emotional impact more pertinent. The rich content of films appeals to different senses, and the ubiquity of their access creates opportunities to use different devices, even in casual situations and environments, suggesting multimodal access. This work, carried out in the context of the Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering at FCUL, addresses the challenges and methods used to research and visualize films through their emotional impact in an interactive way, with different models and modalities over time. In particular through emotions in words, colors, emojis, emotion detection through facial expressions with the use of a camera and trajectories, drawing emotional paths representing the emotions present throughout the movie. In the end, the application’s functionalities were evaluated with users to obtain information about their usefulness, satisfaction and ease of use, and also to understand which search and visualization methods are most suitable or preferred in different situations by users. The search methods preferred by users were searching for dominant emotions using the camera and searching for trajectories through discrete points on the wheel of emotions.
