A pertinência de um serviço educativo nas instituições museológicas é hoje em dia um facto incontestável. Para construirmos o nosso projeto foi preciso fazer um enquadramento teórico que nos permitiu chegar ao conhecimento de algumas teorias e práticas comuns sobre a educação museal. Constatamos que no século XX os museus começaram a fazer parte do elenco das instituições educadoras. O próprio conceito de museu mudou ao longo dos anos, tendo sido introduzida a função de educação na definição da instituição. O trabalho educativo dos museus tem sofrido mudanças ao longo dos tempos, adaptando-se às transformações sociais, políticas, culturais e económicas das sociedades onde se inserem. Esta evolução tem sido influenciada pelos progressos registados no domínio da psicologia, educação, sociologia e museologia. A partir dessas diferentes perspetivas os museus assimilam a educação e aplicam no seu trabalho educativo e no contacto diário com os seus visitantes. Assim, essas instituições têm criado programas educacionais e atividades que procuram melhorar a aprendizagem no espaço do museu. Tendo sempre presente a preservação e divulgação do património cultural. Percebemos também que apesar de atualmente se registar um interesse crescente nas funções educativas, os museus são também lugares onde se produzem diferentes dinâmicas sociais que contribuem para construir sociedades mais reflexivas e inclusivas. A ligação entre museus e educação das ciências é extremamente benéfica para o desenvolvimento de práticas educativas utilizadas pelos serviços educativos das instituições. Os museus do IST são instituições ligadas à ciência e à cultura, podem por isso ser aproveitados para a educação das ciências. Nesse sentido, apresentamos uma proposta para um serviço educativo a funcionar nestes espaços. Este projeto realça ainda a necessidade da preservação do património universitário e científico dos Museus do IST.The present project intends to be a proposal for the implementation of the educational service in the IST Museums. The relevance of an educational service in museological institutions is unquestionable at the present time. In order to delineate the Project it was necessary to make a theoretics that allowed us to get knowledge of some common theories and practices about museum education. We find that in the twentieth century museums began to be part of educational institutions. The concept of museum itself has changed over the years, and the role of education has been introduced in the definition of the institution. The educational work of museums keeps change over time, adapting to the social, political, cultural and economic transformations of the societies in which they are inserted. This evolution has been influenced by progress in psychology, education, sociology and museology. From these different perspectives museums assimilate education and apply in their educational work and daily contact with their visitors. These institutions have created educational programs and activities that seek to improve learning in the museum space, keeping in mind the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage. We are also awared that, although there is a growing interest in educational functions, museums are also places where different social dynamics are produced that contribute to building more reflective and inclusive societies. The relation between museums and science education is extremely beneficial for the development of educational practices used by the institutions educational services. The IST museums are institutions linked to science and culture and can therefore be used for the education of the sciences. In this sense, we present a proposal for an educational service to function in these spaces.
